Get Set For Spring

The buds are blossoming, the temperature is rising… and the house is in need of a good old scrub from top to bottom. Yes, it’s time to pull back the curtains, dig out the shorts, and bring the musty summer duvet out of hibernation. Luckily, we have a few tips and tricks to get your home ship-shape for spring, in the shake of a lamb’s tail.

Tip 1: Blitz That Mould

When it comes to removing mould and mildew, you have a couple of options. If you’re concerned about spraying chemicals around your home, vinegar is a great alternative to bleach. In terms of effectiveness, vinegar is generally considered the winner on porous surfaces, as it kills mould at the root, not just the surface. For bleach, aim for 1/2 - 1 cup per 4 litres of water. For vinegar, you can use neat white vinegar. We recommend using an empty spray bottle to apply your preferred mould-buster to affected areas. Leave the product to work for at least an hour before you wash it off. Always remember to wear gloves, a mask, and protect any fabrics or surfaces in the drip-zone.

Tip 2: Let In That Fresh Spring Air

There really is nothing like airing your home to freshen it up after winter. Try to get into the habit of opening your windows, even just a little bit, for at least an hour per day. You’ll reduce the amount of mould and mildew that builds up after your spring clean, eliminate odours, remove dust allergens in the air and, believe it or not, improve your concentration and productivity levels. Turns out people love fresh air as much as houses do!

Tip 3: Wash Everything

Damp, cold weather can play havoc with your textiles. Even if your home is warm and well ventilated, winter will have taken its toll. Those clothes in boxes under your bed? They’re going to smell pretty musty when you first get them out of storage. Washing curtains, bedding, and summer clothing is a great way to give your home a big old boost of freshness. Just make sure you get everything bone dry afterwards and use a deodorising fabric softener in a springtime fragrance for an extra waft of luxury.
